Have Uniform, Will Travel

Mailed off my poem "Pioneer Square" to the Seattle Review, in the hopes they'll enjoy a Canadian sailor's impression of the city.

There's a good chance I'll be spending time in Quebec City this summer, training for the navy and exploring with friends. I've heard nothing but good things about the city.

Since joining the navy in early 2001, the travel bug has taken hold and nestled deep. Wasaga Beach, Halifax, P.E.I., Hawaii, Seattle, Calgary - places I doubt I'd ever of visited if I'd followed graduation with a 9 to 5 office computer job.

And if you ever thought about travelling across Canada by train, definitely make the time! Wish I'd gone coach both ways though... :)

Poetry Sample

First off, my Hawaiian journal is now on-line. Pics available soon...

The following poem was published in the Spring 2002 issue of Chaos, published by the University of Victoria English Dept.:

NIGHT STORM

Stark starry-eyed youth lies
Awake under quasar quake:
Aurora radiation bursts
Open solar solace sore,
Incandescent nova glow
Worms, weasels through heaven's heath.

Mare's gallop of thundrous rumble
As storms trample trembling moonlight;
Sonata of rainfall patter
Awashes an ashen night sky.
Eyes' prismatic glare glazed behind
Window curtain of crystal.

Rejections, New Directions

An update on the submission front...

The Fiddlehead, out of New Brunswick, sent me a kind note with constructive comments regarding my poetry, but ultimately weren't interested. The Malahat Review and PRISM Int'l, both B.C. publications, sent rejection forms. Still awaiting word from two more literary journals...

Wrote a poem about Pioneer Square in Seattle, based on my visits there with the navy late last year. I'll see what the Seattle Review thinks of it.

Meanwhile, I'm doing artwork for James Bow's Trenchcoat Farewell Project. This hardcover fan fiction anthology should see release next month, and includes a story by yours truly.
